… and the Follow-Up Report
It’s Tuesday. I don’t think anybody really thinks much about Tuesdays (except maybe people who celebrate Mardi Gras, which literally means “Fat Tuesday”), but I do. Tuesdays are the kind of days where you’re just finishing up all our early in the week stuff, but you’re not quite at the late in the week stuff yet. The afternoon, especially, is a nice relaxer, a time not to have to think about everything you’ve just done or what’s coming up, but you can think about it, and normally do, because it’s right in the middle of it all.
Am I making sense so far?
So today, as Tuesday, is a day for me to look back at a few things and summarize them for myself. Ignore this post if you’re not interested in the minutae of my life. I won’t be offended. Much.
Going back a week, I listed a bunch of strange stuff I found for sale on Ebay. This cow, this little wooden statue thing, was one of them. It’s interesting, really; you fill the trough in its back with candies of the M&M or Reese’s Pieces variety (Skittles work, too, but I’m not a big fan), drop on the lid, and you’re set. When you want a handful of sweetness, just hold your hand under its tail end and, with the other, tickle it under the chin. It’ll poop out a handful of multi-colored sugary feces for your munching pleasure.
If it sounds like I know from firsthand experience, that would be because I bought the thing. My first thought was, this would make an perfect gift for the family gathering this Christmas. Given the things that have been “hot items” for the White Elephant Gift Exchange for the past few years, I figured this little moo-moo would but the life of the party. But when it got here, Her Most Incredibleness (I’m so tempted to change her name to Mrs. Awesomesauce, since she’s such a darn good cook) decided it belonged on our mantle, right next to the twelve-inch Hulk.
I’m still not eating candy, but maybe I can fill it with cashews. Of course, they look a little too much like tiny curved turds for my liking.
The drive toward fitness is going well, as evidenced from yesterday’s post, but today’s made for an interesting twist. I had on my compression bandages today. They keep my lower legs from swelling with blood plasma, but they also limit the power of my calf muscles. As a result, the walk today worked my thighs a whole lot more than it has on previous days. I was as worn out after the first lap around the track as I was yesterday after two. It looks like that’s the way I’m going to go – more muscle groups being used, honed, and toned. Any little bit helps, right? It means I might not be able to handle three laps a day next week, but I should the week after, only with stronger legs. I’m still out of breath after a short walk, and there’s no way I could have a conversation while moving, but that will come with time.
The Coppertop is back from his visit to the Do-It-Yourself Grandma, and Adventure Girl is taking her turn. (The Digital Kid will go next week.) It’s weird, not having all three of the kids in and out around here every day. There isn’t as much noise – the good kind as well as the bad – and things seem a bit slow around here. Not in a good way. I suppose this is what it’s going to feel like in eight years when they’re all three of to college or wherever adulthood (and hopefully maturity) takes them. It doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it right now.
The more I think about it, the more I would love to go ahead and film the progress I make with my weight loss and steady march toward health. Maybe even make it a webcast show. I really do believe it could be encouraging to others who are dealing with similar issues, so I’m probably going to be actively looking for a way to make that happen. Obstacle number one, of course, is my lack of a digital video camera. And while we live within our means, we lack the resources to go make a purchase like a camcorder, at least one with the features necessary to make a quality program. If you happen to be reading this, and happen to have one you no longer need – perhaps you’re upgrading and don’t need the camera you bought two years ago – feel free to give me a shout. We can work out some kind of deal.
And, well, I think that’s it for now. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
